Wood Floor Care with Bona

Bona-Care-RangeFurther to our post on our full range of Bona flooring care products we thought it would be a good idea to give you some tips on keeping your wood floor maintained, clean and well-protected during these cold winter months.

Keep your wood floor free from dirt and grime

Cleaning your floor at least once a week will stop the build up of dirt, minimising the risk of scratching or dulling your hardwood floor or engineered floor. Our Bona Care Mop will get rid of any loose dirt or grime and covers large areas at once.

Remove stains and grime with a Wood Floor Cleaner

Our Bona wood floor cleaner is specially formulated to remove stubborn marks with minimal effort. Simply spray on the affected area , leave for a few minutes and wipe clean with the Bona Care Mop. There’s no need to use a water-soluble cleaning solution either, which is ideal for wood floors since water generally isn’t welcome! In fact, using traditional household cleaning products can dull your wood floor and make refinishing difficult.

Other Tips and Advice

Avoid having to sand your floor to the bare wood – Simply sand down the existing finish leaving it slightly rough (called abrading). Refinish your wood floor by applying your lacquer, oil or stain on top of the old abraded finish. Make sure you use the same finish to ensure consistent results.

Reduce the hassle of finishing your wood floor - Bona Waterborne finishes are both environmentally sound and safe to use. This takes away the inconvenience of staying clear of the room while it is drying. It also offers peace of mind for when children are playing on your newly finished floor.

Affordable Parquet Blocks and Battens in Solid Oak

For a real eye catching wood floor parquet blocks and parquet battens are a great choice. Parquet has come a long way since its use in 17th Century Palaces in Russia and China – and a lot more affordable too. A prominent feature in hallways and large rooms parquet flooring was considered an art, especially since engravings would be carved in every block to create large patterns sometimes covering the whole floor.

Nowadays it is much simpler to lay wooden parquet and our guide on laying parquet flooring makes the process even clearer.

Real Oak Floors now sells both oak parquet blocks and oak parquet battens, both tight fitting types of parquet flooring ideal for any home. Our top selling range includes:

White Oak Rustic Parquet Blocks

Our high quality unfinished parquet blocks can be oiled or lacquered in a finish of your choice and are ready to be laid straight onto your floor.

White Oak Prime Parquet Blocks

Choose our prime grade parquet blocks for a smoother looking finish that will brighten any room. Again, you can choose your finish in order to customise your flooring to your own taste.

Rustic Oak Parquet Battens

Our parquet battens are tight-fitting sqaure edged available in both oak and ash. Choose oak for its extremely hardwearing nature or ash for a lighter finish. Both species are solid wood giving them a long lasting finish. These rustic grade parquet battens are avvailable unfinished and can be lacquered or oiled to your choice.

Prime Oak Parquet Battens

These unfinished prime grade battens are fantastic quality, ideal if you want a smooth, clean looing parquet floor rather than the rustic parquet which has character and a deeper tone. You can finish your Parquet flooring with a range of oils and lacquers.

This range of parquet blocks are available in:

Comparing Exotic Flooring to Traditional Oak Flooring

Although an oak floor can really make a different to your home’s interior and really open up the room, have you ever thought about going a little further and opting for an exotic engineered wood floor? At first, you might think why bother with the extra expense, but the recent introduction of the Real Oak Floors exotic floor collection just shows that you can style your home with a whole new look for as much as any other type of wood species.

Engineered Iroko Flooring

If you want a wood that varies in its tone that delivers a unique yet subtle colour pattern across your floor then Iroko is a fantastic choice. The fact that it is very durable makes it very suitable for a wood floor where there is large amounts of floor traffic or in places where pets or children may traverse the floor regularly. In large expansive areas, the floor is simply breathtaking, hints of toffee-coloured tones will bring out white furniture with elegance.

Engineered Teak Flooring

More stable than Iroko, wooden Teak flooring is a consistently-toned wood that has slightly darker grains giving it a character all of its own. Where oak will deliver a smooth, even tone to your floor, woods such as teak will liven up any minmalistic setting or work very well in a kitchen where you may have a teak kitchen worktop to complement the wood floor.

Engineered Doussie Flooring

Engineered wood boards like Doussie and Sapele give off a distinctive red colour and rate as a fairly hard wood on the Janka Hardness Scale (Doussie: 1810; Sapele: 1510). These two wood are much harder than oak flooring which may make a difference where floor traffic (including high heels!) is concerned.

In fact, you may need to take the hardness of the wood into consideration more if you opt for engineered wood flooring. This type of flooring is generally much thinner than solid wood flooring, although the exotic engineered wood flooring range at Real Oak Floors is 21mm thick, an extremely high quality board that will withstand a lot of use.
